I want to let you know about two upcoming events this weekend!
Live Recording in Nashville
If you’re in Nashville I’ll be there tomorrow (Friday, 6/28) doing a live recording for a Nashville Public Television (NPT) show called “A Slice of the Community” with host Jerome Moore.
We’ll be talking about “the complex intersections of race and religion in a thought-provoking dialogue.”
If you’re NOT in Nashville, please share this info with someone who is!
Friday, June 28, 2024
Doors open at 7:15; live taping begins promptly at 8 p.m.
It’s FREE but you do need to register.
Tom Skinner Memorial Teach-In
Tom Skinner was, by far, the most well-known Black evangelical of his era. Starting in the 1960s, Skinner was a prolific speaker and evangelist. He was at one time dubbed “the Black Billy Graham.”
But Skinner’s insistence that the gospel addressed matters of racism and social justice made him persona non grata in many white evangelical circles.
Skinner is best known for his stirring speech—“The US Racial Crisis and World Evangelism” or “The Liberator Has Come”—delivered at the Urbana ‘70 missions conference. But his life included much more.
In this tribute and memorial to Tom Skinner on the 30th anniversary of his passing, I’ll be exploring his life and legacy as a historian of Black evangelicalism and someone personally inspired by his example.
This will be invaluable information for churches, Bible studies, book study groups, and individuals interested in racial justice from a Christian perspective.
Join us for this teach-in.
Sunday, June 30
Online at 4 pm ET.
This event is free, but registration is required.
Lastly, TONIGHT (Thursday, 6/27), I’ll be joining Kristin Du Mez and Robert P. Jones for a special episode of The Convocation Unscripted. We’ll be doing a recap of the debate and sharing out hottest takes! The episode will drop tomorrow, and you can catch up on what we’ve been doing by subscribing.
P.S. If you wish you had known about these events sooner, be sure to follow me on Instagram and set an alert for my posts!
The signup link for Tom Skinner says Thursday the 27th at 4pm ET but your substance post says Sunday the 30th. I am not sure where to put it in my calendar?
