A historian, a sociologist, and an investigative reporter walk into a bar…
Well, maybe instead of a bar they all hop on a podcast together.
That’s what happening on Monday, July 11 at 10 am ET on NPR’s 1A show. 1A “guides you beyond the headlines—and cuts through the noise,” so you can “get to the heart of the story.”
In this episode, the story is about Christian Nationalism.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: Christian Nationalism is the greatest threat to democracy and the witness of the church in the United States today.
It’s not CRT, or Antifa, or The Left or anything else people might mention.
Christian Nationalism has become so ubiquitous in segments of the church and the political sphere that many of its adherents don’t know the difference between their ideology and the Christianity of Christ.
I’ll be joining other experts on the topic.
Andrew Whitehead is a sociologist who co-wrote the book Taking America Back for God: Christian Nationalism in the United States which serves as a thorough and well-researched introduction to Christian Nationalism.
Katherine Stewart is an investigative journalist who wrote The Power Worshipers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism. She traces the labyrinthine network of money, institutions, and individuals that Christian Nationalists have formed to achieve their political ambitions.
All I’ll say by way of endorsement of both of these books is…I have each of them in hard copy and on my e-reader. I want to have these works accessible at any moment.
From my perspective, I will talk about the long history of Christian Nationalism in this country and my own experiences as a target of this ideology.
I hope you’ll set a reminder on your smartphone or make a note to join us on NPR’s 1A podcast on Monday, July 11 at 10 am ET.

It was so good to hear you on 1A Jemar Tisby. Thank you for your participation. I finally put together recently that part of what has been eating at me regarding my evangelical roots has a name: Christian Nationalism. Keep writing and speaking, we need your voice.
I am thankful that you led me to this Podcast. I listened and from what you reported I now believe that White Christian Nationalism is a rebirth of the KKK. I especially liked Ms. Stewart's report of a response to a pushy WCNationalist by asking something like "What brand of Christianity should be nationalized?"
