Welcome to Footnotes by me, Jemar Tisby. I bring historical perspectives on current events.
Come here for words on politics, culture, and religion.
I am a PhD candidate in History at the University of Mississippi. I focus on race, religion, and social movements in the twentieth century with a particular emphasis on Civil Rights and Black Power.
In addition, I have a degree in Christian theology, so I often address the religious angle of stories.
Issues of race, racism, white supremacy and Christian nationalism frequently show up. I love history, so you’ll get lots of lesser known facts about our national racial story.
The goal is Black dignity through raising awareness and courageous action.
The views here are my own. Sometimes I’m working ideas out as I go, but writing is how I learn what I believe.
Subscribe and join me on this journey toward racial justice.
P.S. I have a podcast by the same name. Check out the Footnotes podcast for your listening pleasure.
P.P.S. I’ve got a couple of books. Visit my website: jemartisby.com
