Throughout history whenever racial progress has occurred, a backlash has followed. After Reconstruction, white supremacists pursued “redemption” to take back the South for white men. After the Civil Rights movement, the Religious Right quickly coalesced to consolidate political power.
Now, after the racial justice uprisings in 2020, the forces of regression are pushing back against racial progress by waging a crusade against Critical Race Theory.
Of course what they often call “Critical Race Theory” has nothing to do with the actual field of scholarship taught in law schools, but accuracy is not the goal—fear is the goal.
Far-right provocateur, Christopher Rufo, explained it publicly.
“We have successfully frozen their bran—’critical race theory’—into the public conversation and are steadily driving up negative perceptions. We will eventually turn it toxic, as we put all of the various cultural insanities under that category.”
He’s right. Their propaganda scheme has been successful among large segments of the population as more people label anything related to racial justice “critical race theory.”
This is a crusade because these culture warriors see their battle as a divinely ordained mission.
It is a crusade that has even infiltrated Christian institutions such as colleges and universities.
I have personally seen these pernicious effects up close in my saga with the Board of Trustees at Grove City College.
In speaking with concerned students at GCC who want to see racial progress, we came up with the idea of a teaching series to provide facts and data about Critical Race Theory, racism, and what we can do to move forward.
Coming soon…“Those Meddling Kids: Unmasking the Anti-CRT Crusade in Christian Higher Ed.” This is a teaching series to combat misinformation with accurate information about racism today.
This series consists of conversations with experts on various subjects as we explore topics such as: What is Critical Race Theory; Building an Antiracist Culture in Christian Institutions; How to Heal from Racial Trauma; and many more.
Watch the video below to learn more, and stay tuned for the release of the entire series in the coming days.

We are dealing with a corrupted church as in 'Jesus and John Wayne--How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation' by Kristin Kobes Du Mez. It is a church glorifying wealth and power. And it has tentacles everywhere. It will rape our children and convince us of the separation of church and state. It will deny the separation of the church and state when it wants to wield power. 'Anti-Christ' does not mean 'against-Christ' but, 'in-placeof' Christ. We did not think our own church leaders would call themselves gods, but here we are. I grew up in a Jack Hyles church, and it has been difficult to find my way out of such a cult as this.
Very excited to hear you’re working on this. I Really wish we could have some good faith dialogue about this issue with pastors and other Christian who have fallen prey to this purposeful misrepresentation.
