I just heard from the publisher that I’m only about one-third of the way to the target they set for pre-order book sales of The Spirit of Justice.
That’s far less than what I’d hoped for with just two weeks until launch, and actually, that’s one-third of a goal that had already been reduced based on initial sales.
The team assures me that, comparatively, The Spirit of Justice is doing really well.
But I was never much for comparisons, especially when I think this history is so vital for our moment.
So I’m appealing to all the folks who follow my work, appreciate the significance of learning about the past, and want to see a more racially just world.
Would you pre-order The Spirit of Justice today?
A lot of us intend to buy books when we hear about them, but intentions don’t show up in sales reports.
And if publishers don’t see people interested enough in a book to actually buy it, then it gets a lot harder for authors to pitch the next one.
This is especially true with books about “controversial” subjects such as race and religion.
Ever since the racial justice uprisings in 2020, the appetite of publishers and the public for books about race has plummeted. If you want to see more books on topics you care about, then you have show publishers your interest by buying books on that subject.
I know that cash flow is important. And books have become more expensive since the pandemic.
So if you’re not in a position to purchase the book now, or at all, I absolutely understand. And you can still help.
Please share about The Spirit of Justice on social media. You can use the pics below.
And, if you really want to help you can join my book launch group! Just fill out this form and you’ll be on your way.
We’ve still got two weeks, and the week of the book launch also counts toward pre-order numbers. So there’s enough time to hit our goals and, more importantly, to make sure that we learn the unheralded stories of people who resisted racism by tapping into the spirit of justice.

Does the Audible audio book count toward your presales? I am visually impaired and listened to The Color of Compromise via Audible. If Audible doesn't count toward your presales, I will preorder a print copy for friends/family.
Thank you Dr Tisby for your informative book preview yesterday. I was on the call and happy to say that I preordered and have some ideas of how to connect with others about your upcoming book.
Your generosity of spirit and teaching style was delightful to behold. It capped a week of new Hope❤️
