Don't Just React--Return
In a nation in crisis, we go back to the basics: faith, formation, and justice.
I’m leaning more into my spiritual gift of teaching (and I recommend we all ponder what our spiritual gifts are and how they apply to this moment). I’d love to do live, online teaching, but it takes teamwork to make the dreamwork. Will you become a paid subscriber?
In a recent interview with NBC, a journalist asked Trump whether he believed he was required to uphold the U.S. Constitution.
“I don’t know. I’m not, I’m not a lawyer. I don’t know.”
Trump views the U.S. Constitution and due process as impediments to enacting his vision of what made America “great.”
Referring to detaining and deporting immigrants without due process—in contravention of the 5th Amendment—he said, “I was elected to get them the hell out of here, and the courts are holding me from doing it.”
Now is a good time to remind people of the Presidential Oath of Office which states:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States
The crisis is upon us. The church must respond.
But how?
The most frequent question I get about politics in the U.S. today is, “What do we do?”
While there are many responses—from protesting in the streets, to calling members of Congress, to boycotting businesses and organizations—Christians must not neglect the most basic response.
We cannot simply react. We must return.
Return to our faith.
Return to the word of God.
Return to the depths of our faith that have sustained the great cloud of witnesses who preceded us.
Every generation in crisis has examined the Bible anew in the midst of their particular circumstances.
They have asked of God, “How can we present a faithful witness in the midst of injustice and inhumanity?”
It’s time for us to do the same. And we must do it in community.
I am pleased to announce the creation of…

P.S. Wouldn’t it be cool if I got to talk to Ryan Coogler or Michael B. Jordan about their new film “Sinners?” I co-created the #SinnersMovieSyllabus. But I need your help getting their attention. Would you share this post (on any social platform) and tag them as well as Proximity Media?
I’m most interested in session 6, and how the average white female senior citizen (yeah, me) can make a difference in the realm of public justice and public policy.
“Evangelicalism” is suffering through a spiritual crisis as well as a political one.
The Evangelical Church is at a historical crossroads and must choose this day whom they will serve! America was God’s creation and only God, if chooses to do so, can fix America!
Professing Christians are responsible for sending Donald J. Trump (only I can fix it) back to the White House. Without their vote, Trump does not return to the White House.
Where does Donald J. Trump attend church? Why is that not important to the church at large? Hebrews 10:25 is crystal clear! “Forsake not the gathering of yourselves together as is the habit of some.” Jesus has routinely skipped His Sunday morning T-time for nearly two centuries!
Trump and Maga concepts are nothing new! In fact, the 2025 Project manifesto is clearly detailed in the Scriptures of the Old and New Covenants beginning in the Garden of Eden.
Samuel 8 clearly warns today’s evangelical church to be most cautious about what you ask for: God’s people demanded a king to replace the King of Kings!
Verse 7: The Lord God said to Samuel, “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their King.
The Evangelical church, in their support of Trump, clearly reveal their rejection of God’s Holy word.
“You shall not wrong or oppress a resident alien. Exodus 22:21
“The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you” Leviticus 19:33-34
“You shall have one law for both the resident and the native” Leviticus 24:22
“The community is to have the same rules for you and the foreigner residing among you; this a lasting ordinance for generations to come. You and the foreigner shall be the same before the Lord.” Numbers 15:15-16.
God’s people once rejected Christ nearly 2 thousand years ago and repeatedly called for his crucifixion. Today, Christian Nationalism is snubbing the Scriptures by rejecting the very command of Christ: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8
God’s grace was and is and shall always be the DEI of John 3:16! Whosoever!
