How many books are published each year?
The United Nations Education, Scientific, and Education Organization (UNESCO) estimates that 2.2 million books get published every year.
If you’re an author or have dreams of becoming one, the truth is your lone little book has a minuscule chance of even getting into the hands of a few hundred people, let alone becoming a bestseller.
A few authors, usually people who already have a huge following, get the star treatment from publishers. They get the splashy TV and podcast interviews. Tons of marketing money and ad spending.
Then there’s the rest of us.
So how does a book make it onto bookshelves and snag a millisecond of attention in this era of endless distractions?

The best way for a book to get an audience is through word-of-mouth recommendations and grassroots support.
