MLK's Economic Agenda

Teach-ins like this one take many hours of research and study. I enjoy the process and hope to do as many as possible. But I need your support. Consider becoming a paid subscriber today.

There is so much more to understand about Martin Luther King, Jr.’s approach to justice and human flourishing. Not only have we reduced Martin Luther King's vision to a single line from his "I Have a Dream" speech, we have also forgotten or ignored his vision for economic equity.

In my latest teach-in I talk about King's economic agenda--one that he had from the beginning of his work as a pastor and moral philosopher all the way back in the 1950s and that he infused into his vision of the Beloved Community.

We also get into how the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday came to be and a 15 year saga to get to sign the bill into law and how you can celebrate MLK Day.

This is simply an introduction and there is so much more to say about justice and equity when it comes to wealth. For now, let us simply remember that greed has led to many injustices and a sincere reckoning with the love of money and racism is long overdue.

The video premiers on MLK Day 2023 at 11 am ET. Watch and comment on my YouTube page. Be sure to subscribe to see upcoming videos.

Thank you Jemar. 🙏🏻 I looked on my bookshelf and found my unread copy of the autobiography of MLK. Gonna start it now!

Dr. Tisby, thank you for taking the time to help educate and advocate for Dr. King's full vision. I started reading Where Do We Go from Here last night (it's currently $1.99 for Kindle btw!). Humbled to get to learn from him and from you. I appreciated how you touched on Black women activists as well.
