The Spirit of Justice Picture Book and Young Readers Edition
Make sure your kids learn this history while they're young!
I’d love to provide more racial justice content specifically geared toward children and youth. If you’d like to see that happen, then I need your help. Consider becoming a paid subscriber today!
Have you ever learned about a person or event from the past for the first time and thought, “Why didn’t anyone ever teach me this?”
It’s often the case that some of the most important history never got covered when we were going to school. Then, long into adulthood, we start discovering the vital stories we never learned.
What if the generations that come after us never have to say with surprise and frustration, “How come I never learned this history?”
You can make that happen.
I’m thrilled to officially announce that pre-orders for I Am the Spirit of Justice and Stories of the Spirit of Justice are now open!!!
I Am the Spirit of Justice is my first picture book.
It came out beautifully thanks to our illustrator, Nadia Fisher.
And the words are packed with meaning and flow thanks to my co-author, Malcolm Newsome (who also happens to be my childhood best friend!).
The picture book tells the overall story of the Black freedom struggle and envisions the spirit of justice as a wind blowing throughout history that inspires people to stand up for what is right.
That same spirit of justice is active and available to kids today.
Stories of the Spirit of Justice is the young readers version suitable for children 8 years old and up.
I love the user-friendly format.
The book is divided into historical eras and gives 2-3 page profiles of historical figures, each with original sketches, including Jean Baptiste Point Dusable, Ella Baker, and Toni Morrison to name a few.
So kids can read one or two profiles at a time and then look up more information about particular people and stories that interest them.
The official launch date is January 7, 2025, and you can pre-order both books right now.
One more thing…and this one is for the KIDS!! Read more below…

I am a retired teacher and now I am a grandma. I have friends who are teaching who will need these books, and my grandkids will start with the picture book, since they are 3 and 1. Thank you for the stories and the lessons. 🥰
This is outstanding! Will be purchasing copies for all my grandchildren!
