Thank you for sharing your experience on Capitol Hill. I struggle to speak up. It’s funny, in an odd sort of way. I am a white woman. I can walk around without fear, for now. I am older, I am beyond having to “look good”. I can fly under the radar. And I am in a position to be around some powerful white men. But I am silent. When I speak, I am often silenced by those men who “know better”.
When I look at the current political landscape, my heart sinks. It is hard to find out the truth. I feel like I am standing on a cliff in a thick fog. I don’t dare take a step.
But I have seen the ways our government system has failed its people. And I have seen ways it has allowed us to thrive. The current dismantling isn’t supporting the good pieces, it is just dismantling the whole.
I have stories to tell. My stories, my experiences over the years. I’ve learned a lot, and there is still much I don’t know. I am struggling to pick the right stories to tell. Write them, share them…without fear, with persistence until I am heard.
It is crystal clear that Donald Trump is a means to an end for these right-wing organizations. And that once Trump is gone for good, their mission to bend America into their conservative mold will continue. I appreciate your pulling back the curtain on these orgs and people who wield so much power.
I loved your words today. I have been to DC many times during my life, and the feeling of awe at the buildings and architecture is impressive. Yes, they belong to we the people. On J6, it pierced me deeply that the confederate flag was carried into the Capitol. It is so elemental to our Constitution that we maintain the separation of church and state. Many of us were fleeing religious persecution in Europe. The kidnapped slaves and Native Americans had rich religious traditions they had carried and sustained them through persecution. Government cannot fill the need that strong spiritual faith allows for. Please keep writing and speaking on all these matters. Your voice gives me hope!
Part 2 of your Road to Ruin podcast is sobering. It’s alarming how all of these systems have worked together for years to dismantle what we know of democracy. The end game appears to be a Handmaid’s Tale theocracy.
I get hung up on needing to have the latest info; really I just need to communicate the points Dr. Jemar Tisby referenced from the Summit on Religious Freedom.
Watching Roadmap to Ruin video 2, I think of Christians' partnerships & actions for destruction--siding with oppression once again. Regarding Vought & the movement, it's unChristian to traumatize civil servants! Friends, who remain as civil servants, feel trauma daily. I pray for them & wish we had more support for the civil-servant-remnants. They're being squeezed in all ways. And then there's the trauma ex-civil servants have experienced in addition to the lack of income and work now.
Also, I see the movement's pipeline with cultivating youth going to DC as interns & staffers for "conservative" roles. The young people & American church are a mission field (with the missionary term from Caleb Campbell's "Disarming Leviathan").
Let's stop the destruction. For white folks, we must lead & face the consequences or dog bites esp. for our people who are targeted by the regime.
That pt. 2 video was so informative and detailed. I knew some of this but not all of the names or groups involved. What we are facing is so troubling. How do any of these cold hearted people call themselves Christain??.
Appreciate your “postcard” from your visit to Capitol Hill - you’re right - seeing all the buildings of our democracy is breath-taking. Will your talk at SRF Conference available to us?
