Christian Nationalism is an ethnocultural ideology that uses Christian symbolism to create a permission structure for the acquisition of political power and social control.
The impact of Christian Nationalism appears in electoral politics, matters of gender and sexuality, problems of racism, and more.
To cite just one example, adherents of Christian Nationalism put themselves on notorious display during the attempted insurrection on January 6, 2021.
Until recently, national news media has given scant attention to this pernicious ideology. I was, therefore, encouraged to be invited as a guest panelist on NPR’s 1A radio show.
The other guests included Andrew Whitehead, a sociologist and author of Taking America Back for God, and Katherine Stewart, and investigative journalist and author of The Power Worshipers.
