I will purchase them tomorrow with gratitude, as you have penned great, essential books, but today February 28 is “Do Not Buy” Day nationwide.

I bought all three books. I gave copies of i Am the Spirit of Justice and Stories of the Spirit of Justice to both of my daughters to be read to and with their children, ages 3, 7, 7. 10, and 11. I read I Am...book to teo grandchildren on MLK Day and several weeks later my granddaughter saw the book on my piano and said. "That's the book we read!"

I have been reading my copy of Stories each day this month and cannot believe how much I didn't know about the faithful people highlighted and the circumstances under which they fought for justice. These books are beautifully written snd I have recommended them to family and friends.

I bought two copies of Spirit of Justice -ages 8-12. I had one sent to my 10 year old granddaughter, Sydney and kept a copy for me. We are reading it “ together” and talk about it via FaceTime. It is important to me (retired middle school teacher and currently mentoring new teachers) that children learn authentic history. Thank you for this book!

I bought all three and two of the children’s book. I have read Spirit of Justice and referenced stories in conversations with others. Children’s book at my house to share with grandchildren and one for our church. Justice takes sides, so thank you for taking sides.

I pre-ordered the Spirit of Justice before it came out, and I turned to it for encouragement right after the election. The stories of resistance you highlight in the Spirit of Justice help me remember the courage of Black Americans in the face of tyranny. If they were brave, we can be brave too! After the economic blackout, I will order the young reader versions. Thank you, Jemar!

Dear Jemar, I purchased 2 copies of the Spirit of Justice when it first came out and gave one to a friend. This book is incredibly inspiring and educational. I also bought a copy of the beautiful young children’s book for my grandniece. Thank you for writing these treasures ❤️. Julie Lindemann. Co-Convener of Racial Reconciliation Ministry. I have purchased SOJ and read it in a book club, I’m about halfway through it. Love the inspiration! I have The Color of Compromise and How to fight racism. Thank you for all your writing! The Color of Compromise was the most impactful for me.

Could the justice for generations books be added to the TCU bookshelf? I think it'd be great for the children & youth in the TCU-fans' lives: https://bookshop.org/lists/from-the-convocation-unscripted-team

On the last day of BHM 2025, I finally looked up the phrase used to convey betrayal, "sold down river." I've been slowly editing my learned phrases. And I learned more about Louisville, Ky. Does this history have any connection with the Kentucky Derby? https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2014/01/27/265421504/what-does-sold-down-the-river-really-mean-the-answer-isnt-pretty

I hope that I can continue to learn from NPR in the future without censorship. Books will be all the more important--esp those written by Dr. Jemar Tisby!

Our church book group is reading The Spirit of Justice, and I will say as a white woman, I am learning a lot. A few names I knew, but I'm learning so many more and so much history as well. Thank you.

We have one Black man in our group who helps ground our discussion. Not only a spirit of justice, but the bravery of the people spotlighted in the book awes me time and time again.

I've read the diary of a great-grandfather of mine who came to the US from the Black Forest region of Germany, but it pales in comparison. Great-grandpa had to work off his passage for 2 years on a farm in Wisconsin and wasn't fed well, but two years in comparison to a lifetime of labor!!

Thank you, for your book and for your ongoing commentary as a member of The Convocation Unscripted.

I’ve been reading the adult version of Spirit of Justice and just purchased the two children’s books to give to my grandchildren. I will hopefully read along with them since I’ve ordered a copy for myself of the one for older kids. Thanks for these resources and for the reminder to buy them this month!

When is the paperback of SOJ available? (I bought SOJ copies in honor of my father who promoted white X-ian Nationalism until his death.)

Hmmm ... price of eggs? If helpful, I share substitutions for eggs in baking. I've done so with chia seeds for years. I prefer to buy books!

Substitute Chia Seeds for Egg

(good for baked oatmeal)

to substitute for 1 egg, combine

o 1 tablespoon chia seeds

o 3 tablespoons water

• let gel for about 15 minutes before use

Substitute Flax Meal for Egg

combine

o one tablespoon of ground flax seeds

o three tablespoons of water

Substitute Unsweetened Applesauce for Egg

• 1/4 cup of applesauce for 1 egg

Substitute Banana for Egg

(better for recipes for baked goods (ie: oatmeal cookies, bread pudding, quick breads) suitable for the banana flavor & that either contain leavening or don’t need to rise)

• ¼ cup mashed bananas (extra ripe is best) for 1 egg

Finally moved them from wish list to purchase at Carmichael's Bookstore in Louisville KY. Figured it was OK to buy from a local on Buy Nothing Day.
