Wonderful thoughts here, Jemar! Thank you so much for breaking this well-known scripture down... Encouraging as oftentimes self care and self love is viewed as selfish, yet you make it clear that this is not a healthy view.
One thing I recognized when I came to terms with some of the wounds and trauma in my life was serving others in community was helpful to grow and heal. Also, forgiving others for causing some of the wounds was also resourceful in my healing, but those steps took much time (and I did not even have to tell the person who hurt me I had forgiven him). Reconciliation is not complete, but I am at peace.
I'm not all the way there yet, but who is? Thanks again for being part of my walk with the Lord. Bless you!
Thank you for sharing a tender part of your journey with us. Emotional and spiritual health resemble physical health in some ways. We’re never prefect or without issues, but we can cultivate the habits that make us functional and resilient over the long haul. Glad you’re experiencing more peace.
Thank you for sharing this sermon. I have heard similar thoughts on loving yourself and forgiving. I appreciate your fearless authenticity in sharing your journey in determining how you want to spend your time and focus your attention. I am at a stage, moving into the second half of my life. I am recognizing that what I prioritized earlier in my career, and at the beginning of my role as mother and wife, are shifting and expanding. I feel blessed to be able to pray, reflect, and explore where and how I wish to focus my time and energy. I suppose that this is learning to love myself. I have learned to pray to God for help in gaining comfort in being authentically myself and pursuing what brings joy.
