Thank you for your work.I am currently reading another book about the first women in western medicine in the United States. The sisters Blackwell and Mary Putnam Jocobi. Their struggles to bring women to medicine and medicine to women was possible in part through the support of the abolitionists and the suffragists. They provide inspiration for me.
It was such a joy and pleasure to hear you again at Spark Church. Thank you for sharing and all that you are doing for the betterment of the Kingdom. And yes, I did read your book to all my students last week in my classes. I teach the whole school music, but last week it was singing the song, "I Am the Spirit of Justice" with each child at the school as the music teacher. Thanks again! Until next time Dr. Tisby.. .. . .
How awesome to have a justice book fair for children ... & by a church! For the rest of us, how about about a Black History Month book-bundle for children with authors Dr. Jemar Tisby & poet Malcolm Newsome with illustrator/activist Nadia Fisher.; Dr. Esau McCaulley; & Dr. Terence Lester & Zion; & the awesome illlustrators! https://substack.com/@hope4people/note/c-91538186
Thanks, Preacher Tisby & Spark Church, for the full audio of the powerful sermon! Frederick Douglass' words are my motto as I feel compelled to live the witness & contrast from the ideology of "white X-ian Nationalism", which I have exited & renounced.
Now I see how the Lord has repeatedly made a way--when it looked like there was no way--out of tough stuff. Various people or authors, perhaps unaware of their impact, have helped me with their presence, listening, authenticity, courage, questions, planting seeds, & speaking truth. But with me 24/7 was & is the Lord--even when I'm unaware. This brings me great comfort. Currently, I enjoy reading the First Nations Version New Testament. "The Spirit of Justice" encourages me too.
Today's encouragement: "First Letter from Small Man to the Sacred Family in the Village of Pleasure (I Cor 13:6, 13) "Love is not happy with lies and injustice, but truth makes its heart glad. .... v13 But until then, these three remain--faith, hope, and love--and love is the greatest! First Nations Version NT https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+13&version=NRSVUE
Thank you for the reminder Dr. Tisby. I needed this today (I'm catching up om email this morning) and would love to quote you're writing to a couple of friends who are in the fight with us. They need to be reminded as well.
Rev Dr. Harris Sr recommended reading Dr. Obery Hendricks Jr.'s books, "Jesus and Politics" & more recently, "Christians Against Christianity: How Right-Wing Evangelicals Are Destroying Our Nation and Our Faith." Has anyone read 1 or both? I'm asking the public library to order the books or request an interlibrary loan. I'm grateful for the role of public libraries for a pluralistic democracy &...the Black Church too!

Love that you’re reading a whole book and getting the coherent narrative instead of random facts! Keep it up!
Thanks for sharing this! I was present when you ministered at Temple of Faith Baptist Church in Louisville back in June 2024.
Yes, you are most certainly a preacher of the Gospel of Christ!
You are not one of those "jackleg" (phony) preachers -- in the words of my old school grandfather/pastor. :-)
We need to bring back the term “jack leg”! 😂
LOL!
