Third or 4th time reading the now. Hit me Morgan’s accusations were spot on. The local reaction indicates guilt.

Thanks for this article. It would be interesting to see a list of all white Americans you feel have truly stood with and sacrificed wholeheartedly for the cause of racial justice throughout American history. People who truly put "skin in the game". (John Brown, etc.) People who saw African-Americans so much as equals that they were willing to stand up for them (and sacrifice), as they would for other white Americans if they were being oppresses in the same ways.

The “Spirit of Justice” provides key examples of modern-day backlash or “white-lash.” I say it feels like “whiplash.” I love how the book ends with examples of folks who persist despite the personal consequences. Personally, mine are told within my racial autobiography, which is a recommended practice in “How to Fight Racism.” I plan to reread both books again this election season.

Example of backlash: Ted Cruz railing against the Anti-racist Baby board book in a Senate hearing which is part of our grandsons' board book collection. He obviously did not understand that book at all or deliberately misrepresented. There are no "racist babies" in the book.

Thank you again Dr Tisby. When opportunity arises, not often, I share the story of Hayes and Mary Turner who lived in 1918 Southern Georgia. You may already be aware of their lynching for a crime they did not commit. Maybe it would be possible to include their tragic ending in your next book.

Thank you, Dr Tisby, for your amazing faithfulness concerning the cause of racial reconciliation. There is a definitive cost to telling the truth.

The Tea Party, "Put the White back in the White House" after the election of the first Black President. They had no legitimate argument against Obama. MAGA is just the expansion of the Tea Party driven by White QAnon Evangelical Nationalists. 60% of Evangelicals follow the teachings of Moses, and not Jesus. Mosaic Law lays the foundation for the QAnon conspiracy theories. QAnon Evangelicals are not Christians, but are exactly who we are talking about with White "Christian" Nationalists.

I am still confused on how a Black Man can be associated with even the 30% of Evangelicals as today's Evangelical movement has its roots in the post Civil War backlash to the freeing of the slaves. I lived in every state in the South. That disease has now spread to the entire country through the Evangelical movement. So, as Malcom X said (paraphrase), "if you are south of the Canadian border, you are in the 'South'", couldn't be more true today.

MAGA behavior is right out of the OT (Mosaic Law), from 1865 to today, and rooted in the cult of QAnon Evangelism.

I'm about 100 pages in to The Spirit of Justice and what a compelling read. Thank you for bringing to light the lives of those who knew the cost of truth-telling, of putting their lives on the live to further the cause of justice for dark-hued people in America. May the Spirit of Justice compel those of us privileged by skin color to face complicity and right the wrongs.
