Thank you for sharing this Dr Tisby! What Kamala Harris did was absolutely astonishing. A Black woman and person of extraordinary competence and character. And she's only one of very many!

Our nation had an opportunity to demonstrate all the virtues that we claim to make us exceptional.

White male patriarchy and White solidarity put a liar, abuser of women, criminal, and insurrectionist in office.

So it is obvious that our nation is far from virtuous and exceptional in many ways.

I look forward to learning more about the women highlighted in your article. I am already following Stacy Abram's work.

We're basically in a worst-case scenario political situation now. Certainly at the federal level.

Great list! Lots of "already favorites", and some "got to check them out"!

(Small correction: it is Mariame Kaba, not Miriam :) )

On 3/19/25 during Women's HIstory month, I read a Substack article over which I felt sad & frustrated. I wish that the writers & their readers could learn from this post by Dr. Jemar Tisby on 12/17/24. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to learn from Dr. Jemar Tisby & the women's voices Dr. Tisby listens to & includes within writings & speaking. (I wish these writers could learn from Dr. Tisby too https://www.thewomenpost.com/p/where-is-kamala-harris-the-women?r=518mt6&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web)

I’m grateful for this list of Black women historians and thought leaders. The extreme fatigue with a nation relentlessly clinging to its yt supremacy is a body of experience I cannot fathom. I am a huge fan of @yamzbesayin. I’ve learned a lot from Black women on Threads, including -
