I have watched the political statements about woke and CRT by many Republican candidates in the 2022 election cycle, and each time I think - another piece of evidence backing up all the findings of Color of Compromise and White Too Long.

“For some white evangelicals, I had gone too far.” But for some - like me - you helped open our eyes to our own complicity in racism. We needed your book and your voice as we watched in horror the murder of George Floyd and tried to make sense of our fellow white Christian responses. I’m extremely thankful to be counted among “the other” in this case.

Yes - the majority of my family and many friends use the term “woke” and it is always in a negative way. In my circles, the term is primarily used to criticize fellow white conservatives by implying that we are being deceived or swayed by emotions (rather than logic). When I ask what THEY mean by using the word “woke” they typically talk about reparations and how absurd that is since slavery ended so long ago. They also use the majority of the arguments you mentioned in Chapter 9 of TCOC. That chapter has been especially helpful to me as I try to engage them in conversation.

It's almost as if the core of what they are hearing you say is" Wait! You're saying we're following the wrong model of Jesus himself. That cannot be since that means we don't know Jesus at all. " because that may go along way in explaining their reaction. You've simply opened a door into a room they cannot enter. Mark Charles has a message on Acts 10 and the Gentile Pentecost that expands on that wrong model concept.

When even Chick-Fil-A isn't immune to the "anti-woke" mob, you know they've "jumped the shark." Your work is essential to a full knowledge of Christ and helps to make disciples who otherwise would never know Him because of the misdeeds of so many of his professed followers. I hope you never become discouraged to the point of giving up. We need your light in a time of ever-expanding darkness.

If I may, I'd like to share some thoughts with you that relate to your work.
